Timing and classical commentary

This is the most contested antardasha of the chapter — the classical texts disagree sharply, so all three views are recorded below.

BPHS view: favourable when Saturn is strong (exalted/own/friendly sign in Angle/Trine/11th).

Jataka Parijata view (negative): when Saturn's antardasha operates in Jupiter's Mahadasha — disturbed mind, enhancement of contemptuous feelings, extravagant expenditure by the son, and loss/reverses in all ventures.

Phaladeepika view (mixed): company of prostitutes, increase in liquor consumption and materialistic comforts are attained; BUT lot of distress in family and cattle herds, heavy expenditure, native remains under fear psychosis, eye disease and distress of son.

Classical commentary: Gemini Ascendant = maximum benefic result, because Saturn's Moolatrikona falls in the 9th house (fortune) and Jupiter is 7th+10th lord — both Jupiter AND Saturn act as Yogakaraka, so a strong linkage between them is required for full results. For most other Ascendants one of Jupiter/Saturn becomes malefic, so the sub-period leans inauspicious.

Timing for Gemini Ascendant: the benefic results manifest in the LATTER HALF of the antardasha. The earlier half gives 8th-house results, because for Gemini Saturn is lord of both the 8th and the 9th houses (the 8th lordship dominates first).

Example 42 (DOB 24-10-1954, Gemini Ascendant): both Jupiter and Saturn in exaltation signs and friendly signs, angular to each other, Saturn aspecting Jupiter. Saturn was combust but had a high Shadbala of 8.33 Rupa (well above the 5.00 Rupa minimum), which compensated for the combustion. Jupiter-Saturn period 5-3-1988 to 16-9-1990: tremendous business progress, entry into politics (a limited inroad) and a quantum jump in living standard.
